Canadian Poutine


Poutine is one of the most quintessential Canadian dish. An authentic Poutine has french fries, a brown gravy and cheese curds. The cheese curds are spread over the deep fried french fries and then topped with brown gravy, the gravy can be made out of chicken , beef or turkey broth or can be even a combination of any of them.

Here i have tried 2 variations of Poutine, one with Chicken gravy along with shredded chicken and one with beef gravy with beef strips, also along with some goodness of veggies. And the cheese used is mozzarella cheese cubes and given an extra punch with shredded mozzarella cheese as well. And  all together you can guarantee a finger licking treat.

This dish was suggested by my hubby. I am not sure from where he came across it. Both of us are a huge digger for the Ultimate Gourmet Fries from Charley's Philly Steaks  in which cheddar cheese is spread over the fries topped with some sauce and bacon. So he was like try it out, might be we will get something more tastier and yes indeed it was a great suggestion. Thank You 😍

Canadian Poutine 
Preparation Time : 15 minutes 
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Assembling Time : 5 minutes

Ingredients:-
For Marinate:-
Boneless Chicken / Beef strips- 200 gm
Pepper Powder - 1/4 tsp
Worcestershire sauce - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste
For gravy:-
Butter - 2 tsp
Flour - 3 tbsp
Chicken / Beef Stock - 1 1/2 cups
Worcestershire sauce - 1 tbsp
Pepper Powder
Salt if required
Other Ingredients:-
Frozen Potato fries - 4 cups
Oil - to deep fry potato and to shallow fry chicken
Mozzarella Cheese cubes - 1 cup
Shredded Mozzarella Cheese - 1/2 cup
Parsley - for garnish

Method:-
1.Shallow fry Chicken / Beef Stripes:- 
   Clean the Chicken and make incisions. Mix all the ingredients for marinate including chicken / beef stripes. Rub well and keep aside for 5-10 minutes and then shallow fry in 1 tbsp oil, till both sides are cooked well. Shred the chicken / beef stripes unevenly using a fork and keep aside.
2. Deep Fry Potatoes:- 
    In a pan or kadai, heat oil and deep fry potatoes till golden. Drain absorbent paper, sprinkle some salt over it and toss. Make sure to sprinkle very little salt.
3. Prepare Gravy:- 
    In another non- stick pan, heat butter, add flour and saute for a minute till the raw smell disappears. Add stock slowly to this stirring continuously, so that no lumps are formed. Add Worcestershire sauce and cook till sauce thickens, Season with pepper and salt(if required). Switch off the flame.
4. Assembling:-
    Keep some fries as the base in the serving plate.
    Place the chicken slices all over it.
    Top with mozzarella cheese cubes.
    Pout the hot gravy all over the cheese, chicken and fries.
    Top with shredded cheese and parsley. Serve immediately.

Notes:-
1. U can fry the normal potatoes, by cutting them into wedges or fingers and season them with required spices and deep fry, or even bake them.
2. If the gravy is not getting thickened, add some cornflour,mixed in little water to the gravy and mix well.
3. Make sure to pour hour gravy over the fries ans also to serve hot.
