Toffee Banana / Chinese Toffee Banana



A classic Chinese dessert  with  crispy batter fried melt in mouth banana slices, coated with toffee glazed caramel and sprinkled with sesame seeds.

The sliced banana's are batter dipped and deep fried which makes the banana super soft and melt in mouth texture in side and crispier outside. The caramel coat make it more crunchier and even more wonderful with the sesame seeds.


I came know about this dish from a Facebook group and in the first view i even didn't had any plans to give a try. Months later, my Mr. was referring me about this dish and i was like i know this dish before you and put on my apron to prove it 😎. I was really pleased to him as i made this dish just to impress him and it came out as a delicious snack. We had it with tea, so i am referring it as snack. It is usually enjoyed as a desert as such or with a dollop of vanilla ice-cream.

Toffee Banana / Chinese Toffee Banana
Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time : 25 minutes

Ingredients:
Banana - 1
All purpose Flour - 1/2 cup
Cornflour - 1/2 cup
Baking Powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt
Oil - For deep frying
Ice cubes
For Caramel
Sugar - 1/2 cup
Water - 1 tbsp

Method:
Deep Frying the Bananas
1. Cut the bananas and keep aside.Whisk together all purpose flour, cornflour, baking powder and salt. Add the water and mix until you get a smooth batter.
2. Dip banana pieces one by one in the flour mix ad deep fry. Cook both sides and drain to kitchen towel.
Prepare Caramel
1. In a pan add sugar, and water. Cook on medium heat until caramel forms. Remove from heat immediately and follow below steps.
Preparing Toffee Banana
1. Add the fried bananas one at a time to the caramel.
2. Turn the banana's to coat the caramel.
3. Drop the toffee coated banana's into ice water to set the caramel.
4. Drain immediately then sprinkle with sesame seeds.
5. Serve as such or with ice-cream.
